Xiaomi Brought Mi VR Play 2 to the Market

Last year Xiaomi joined the VR-trend introducing two models of virtual reality glasses of its own. A smartphone-based Mi VR Play came in first highly resembling Google Cardboard. It was later followed by a more advanced Mi VR that also required a phone to work, but it was a whole new box of tricks and shipped with a remote control.

We would hope the next Mi VR-headset would be a self-contained one because people already do that, but Xiaomi would be one of the first to offer a device like that for a reasonable price. Apparently, that is something with no difficulties to do so the company decided to walk the beaten track and make something everybody would definitely like.

This is Mi VR Play 2 and there is actually nothing that distinguishes it from the first generation in terms of hardware. Only a few design elements were changed that made the headset lighter and more refined.

The new headset got a pill-shaped front and a strong cotton wrapping called “dragon’s cloth”. The part sitting on your face has a soft padding with small holes all across for better cooling when you wear it for a long time. Xiaomi ditched a zipper in a compartment where the smartphone is placed and added a clip-button instead that, as reported, makes inserting and removing the smartphone easier and secures the device well.

Mi VR Play 2 measures 129×191×120 mm and weighs 183 grams. It is compatible with 4.7 up to 5.7-inched smartphone and provides 1080p resolution for each eye, boasts of high refresh rate and a 93-degree field of view.
