FireWire (IEEE 1394) cables and adapters connect older camcorders, audio interfaces, external drives and Mac computers that use FireWire ports. FireWire was widely used for transferring video from MiniDV and HDV camcorders, which many people still use to digitise old home videos. FireWire 400 uses 4-pin and 6-pin connectors, while FireWire 800 uses 9-pin connectors. Check the connector types on both devices before ordering. Adapters connect FireWire 400 devices to FireWire 800 ports.
