Decal stickers and skins change the look of a phone or accessory without adding thickness. They are thin vinyl or film layers cut to the shape of a specific device or designed as free-form decorations, and they are popular with people who prefer a slim phone without a case or want to refresh the appearance of an older device.
What decal stickers are used for
- Changing the colour or texture of the back of a phone, for example to a carbon-fibre, matte, leather-look or printed design.
- Protecting the back glass or housing from fine scratches and scuffs.
- Covering minor cosmetic damage on a used device before resale or gifting.

Types and materials
Full-body skins are cut precisely for one phone model, with openings for the camera, flash and buttons. Partial decals cover only the back panel or decorate a specific area. Most quality skins use vinyl with an air-release adhesive layer, which helps remove bubbles during application and allows the sticker to be peeled off later without heavy residue. Clear protective films focus on scratch protection, while printed and textured skins focus on appearance.
Choosing the right sticker
- Check the exact phone model, because camera module shapes vary even within one generation.
- Decide whether you want only decoration or also protection; skins do not protect against drops.
- If you use a case, a thin skin can sit under it, but very textured skins may make a tight case harder to fit.
- For devices with wireless charging, thin vinyl skins normally do not interfere; avoid metal decorative stickers in the charging area.
Application tips
Clean the surface with an alcohol wipe and let it dry completely. Align the camera cut-out first, then smooth the sticker from the centre outwards. A hair dryer on a low setting helps vinyl stretch around curved edges. To remove a skin, warm it slightly and peel it slowly at a low angle to avoid leaving adhesive.
