Swimming Pools and Pool Parts: Above-Ground Pools, Filters, Pumps and Accessories
Home swimming pools provide fun and exercise during summer. This category covers swimming pools and swimming pool parts, including inflatable and frame pools, filters, pumps, ladders, covers and maintenance accessories.
Types of pools
- Inflatable pools: quick to set up, affordable, ideal for children and small spaces.
- Frame pools: metal frames support larger, deeper pools for longer seasons.
- Kids' pools and splash pads: small, shallow pools for young children.
Choosing a pool
Measure the available space and check that the ground is level and free of sharp objects. Consider water volume, which affects filling time, water costs and the size of filter and pump needed. Check the maximum depth for safety.
Filtration and pumps
Filters and pumps keep water clean by circulating it through cartridge or sand filters. Choose a pump sized for the pool volume so water is filtered several times a day. Clean or replace cartridges regularly.
Water treatment
Chemical treatment, such as chlorine, and regular testing keep water safe. Follow product instructions carefully and store chemicals securely away from children.
Pool parts and accessories
Ladders, ground cloths, covers, skimmers, vacuum heads, hoses and repair patches maintain pools. Covers keep debris out and reduce evaporation.
Safety
- Never leave children unsupervised, even in shallow pools.
- Use pool covers, fences or alarms where possible.
- Empty small pools after use.
- Keep electrical equipment away from water.
Maintenance
Skim debris daily, clean filters regularly and test water chemistry. Drain, clean and dry pools before storing them at the end of the season.
Practical tips
Place pools on a ground cloth to protect the liner. Check for leaks with soapy water on seams.
A well-maintained pool provides safe enjoyment throughout the summer.
Before buying replacement parts, note the pool brand and size and the connection diameter of hoses and filters, as fittings differ between manufacturers.
