An L-bracket attaches to the bottom and side of the camera, which lets you switch between landscape and portrait orientation on a tripod by simply moving the camera from one side to the other. This keeps the camera centred over the tripod, which improves stability and keeps the composition the same, unlike flipping a ball head to the side. L-brackets use the Arca-Swiss standard, so they work with most tripod heads and gimbals. Check that the bracket is made for your camera model or is a universal design that fits your camera. Cut-outs keep the ports and battery door accessible.
