Power adapters keep DVRs, NVRs and cameras running, and a failed or unstable adapter causes recorders to restart, cameras to lose night vision or the whole system to stop recording. Replacement adapters are a quick, cheap fix. Check the output voltage (usually 12V DC for analogue cameras and many recorders), current rating, plug size and polarity before ordering, and choose an adapter with equal or higher current than the original. Centralised power boxes with multiple outputs power several cameras from one unit, which makes installations neater. Adapters with safety certifications protect against overheating and short circuits. UPS units keep systems recording during power cuts.
