Fishing hooks come in many sizes and shapes for different fish and techniques, and choosing the right hook improves the chance of a catch. Single hooks suit bait fishing, treble hooks are used on lures, circle hooks hook fish in the corner of the mouth, which is better for catch and release, and jig hooks are used with soft plastic lures. Hook sizes are numbered, with smaller numbers meaning larger hooks (except for sizes marked 1/0, 2/0 and up). Check the hook size, type and strength for your target fish before ordering. Sharp, chemically sharpened hooks penetrate better. Barbless hooks make catch and release easier.
