A protective frame adds a layer of plastic or aluminium around the camera body, which absorbs knocks during cycling, skiing and other action sports. Frames with cold shoe mounts let you attach a microphone or light, and mounting fingers connect the camera to standard action camera mounts. Check that the frame leaves the battery door, USB-C port and buttons accessible, so you can charge and change settings without removing it. Choose a frame designed for 360° cameras so it stays out of the stitched image and does not appear in the final video.
