Thermal imaging cameras and phone thermal modules for finding heat leaks, electrical faults and pipe problems.
Thermal cameras detect heat instead of visible light, which makes it possible to see temperature differences in complete darkness, through smoke and in difficult conditions. They are used for building inspections to find heat loss, moisture and insulation problems, for electrical inspections to find overheating components, for HVAC work, for hunting and wildlife observation, and for search and rescue. Check the thermal resolution (higher is better), temperature range, refresh rate and whether the camera combines thermal and visible images. Phone-attached thermal cameras are an affordable entry option. Thermal cameras are popular with electricians, plumbers, builders and home inspectors.
