Aluminium cages and metal frames add strong protection and extra mounting points to a GoPro, which makes them popular with filmmakers and vloggers who use their GoPro as a main camera. Cold shoe mounts let you attach microphones, lights and monitors. Many cages include a 1/4" thread for tripods and a side opening for the battery door and ports. Check that the cage is made for your GoPro model, as each HERO generation has a slightly different size. Metal cages are heavier than plastic frames, so check the weight if you plan to use them on drones or helmets.
