Pry bars, spudgers and opening picks are used to separate screens, back covers and frames without scratching or bending the device. Metal pry bars are strong and thin enough to slip into tight gaps, but they can scratch or damage parts, so use them carefully. Plastic spudgers and nylon picks are softer and safer for disconnecting cables and prying near delicate parts. Most technicians keep a mix of metal and plastic tools in different shapes and sizes. Replace worn picks regularly, as bent tips can slip and cause damage.
