Small desktop switches are plug-and-play and fit easily on a desk or behind a TV. Gigabit switches support the fastest home internet speeds and fast file transfers between devices. Check the number of ports, speed (10/100 Mbps or Gigabit) and power source before ordering. Metal cases are more durable and dissipate heat better. Note that modern switches are more efficient than older hubs, as they send data only to the device that needs it, which reduces network congestion.
